Have you ever thought you were following God’s plan for your life only to find out you were not? Was it because you were following your own idea of what God should do? Were you pursuing what you what you thought would be ideal in a perfect world?
We are like Peter sometimes. We think we know what God should do or what He is about to do. We take initiative. We start down a path. Or we simply pray, telling God to bless our efforts with the false sense we are doing what He wants.
There are times we must step back. We must pause. We must ask God what His plan is. We must listen for His quiet voice to lead us. It is when we do this, we find we are truly following His plan and are richly blessed with success.
Yes, Peter thought it was horrendous that Jesus must die. We might forgive Peter since he was just a fisherman and not highly educated. But even those who are highly educated go off doing their own thing. In fact, it is sometimes because of their high level of education they think they know what God is doing.
It is the humble who will follow God’s plan. It is the person who realizes they are nowhere near as intelligent as God who will hear Him speak. It is the willing soul who takes up the mantle of God and proceeds to carry out His work.
I pray we all humble ourselves before God. I pray we give up pursuing our own desires. I pray each one of us will spend time asking God to reveal His plan to us and willingly follow it. Humble yourself before God. Ask God to reveal His plan to you. Commit to following God’s plan rather than your own. Know that God will bless you.
Mark 8:33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
