A Strong Foundation

What do you do when trouble comes? How do you react when things go badly? What is your reaction when what you hoped for didn’t happen? What goes through your mind when it seems all your dreams go down the tubes? Do you trust God?

We all go through tough times. We all have troubles come our way. Sometimes they are of our own making. Sometimes they are not. We live in a broken world, full of broken people. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

We have a decision to make before those bad things happen. We need to decide whether we will trust God or not. Why is it important to make the decision before bad things happen? If we are not firm in our beliefs, we will fall away when our beliefs are tested. It’s one thing if our beliefs are only tested by something small, such as whether we get a new pair of shoes or not. It is something different when they are tested by the loss of our job.

If our beliefs are not built on a strong foundation, they will crumble under pressure. A strong foundation is needed for a house to stand the test of time. Houses with a strong foundation can last for centuries. Those strong foundations are made of stone, solid stone.

A key ingredient for a strong foundation is it must be solid, yet flexible. It needs to be strong enough to withstand the weight of the house yet be able to move or shift if an earthquake hits without falling apart. It needs to be made of top-grade material.

Our foundation needs to be much the same. That is why God is an awesome foundation for us. He provides us with the strongest foundation. Yet, He also covers us in His grace, which provides us forgiveness when we fall short of being perfect like He is.

God’s love for us is without end. That means there is no beginning and no end. He loves us regardless of what we do. That doesn’t mean He likes it, but He won’t stop loving us. That’s a foundation we can count on.

As our Scripture passage for today states, there is nothing that can separate us from the love of Christ. We need to trust Him and His love for us. We need to build our trust in Him while times are good, so we don’t crumble when trouble comes.

I pray we all make God our foundation. I pray we trust in the love Christ has for us. I pray each one of us builds our trust in God each day. Make God your strong foundation. Put your trust in Christ. Build your relationship with Him. Know you are standing on solid ground before troubles come.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
