As we have walked through the Apostle Paul’s list of guidance we have seen quite a list. He continues his list through the end of Romans 12. It is a list full of guidance to live by, but not easy to do. Today we take a look at a few more of Paul’s bits of guidance.
Paul says we are not to repay evil for evil. We are not to be vengeful. We are not to take matters into our own hands. This goes against our desire to see the other person pay for what they have done. Our human nature wants our own version of justice.
Rather than seeking revenge, we are to set our minds on what is noble. Paul is talking about high moral character. To be honorable in all that we do. We are to have an excellent character, one that is above reproach. Our principles are to be of the highest moral character. By having a noble character, we will gain respect from others.
We are to live peaceably with others as far as it depends on us. We are to be the peacemakers. Rather than purposely ruffling feathers, we are to smooth them. We may not be able to make peace with everyone, for not everyone wants peace. Yet, we are not to be the one who forgoes peace when it is possible. We are to do everything we can do to maintain the peace. To get along with everyone.
I pray we all read Paul’s guidance. I pray we seek to live by it to the best of our ability. I pray each one of us will strive to live peaceably with others and be of noble character. Do not repay evil for evil. Think on what is noble. Live peaceably with others.
Romans 12:17-18 Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
