What is the difference between being foolish and being wise? Where do you think you fall? Are you sometimes foolish and sometimes wise? Do you desire to be wise all the time? How are you learning to be wise? Do you equate being wise to following God’s commands?
We see people do foolish things from time-to-time. We may do a foolish thing ourselves. Some of the foolish things are funny, and some are not. There is one foolish thing we may do that is very serious. That foolish thing is to choose to ignore and disobey God’s commands.
Human wisdom can be acquired through experience, study, and listening to wise advice. However, human wisdom will only get us so far. True wisdom comes only from God and can only be acquired through obedience to God. As we see in today’s passage we see there were both foolish and wise young women. The foolish were unprepared while the wise were prepared. We may try to write this off as simple planning. Yet it goes far deeper than that. It includes a desire to welcome the bridegroom and participate in the wedding banquet. It meant not taking shortcuts.
If we are to be wise, we must prepare for Jesus’ return. Even if we do not believe He will return today or tomorrow, that is irrelevant. For none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. If we to have a fatal accident or a fatal health incident, we need to be ready to meet Jesus. This is not to drive us to fear but to drive us to act positively. Our wise actions are driven by our love for Jesus.
I pray we all choose to be wise rather than foolish. I pray we choose to obey God’s commands. I pray each one of us love Jesus and wisely prepare to meet Him every day. Be wise. Give up being foolish. Obey God’s commands. Love Jesus. Prepare to meet Him.
Matthew 25:1-2 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten young women took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.”
