Who do you give credit to for your life? How did you come to be here and now? Who has overseen every moment you have lived? Have you acknowledged the One who knows every detail about you? Do you know the Author of life, the Word of God, the Creator of all things?
Most of us give our mother and father credit for bringing us into this world. We may also credit them for raising us and teaching us as children. Along the way, we have had many who have shared wisdom with us, teaching us new things, expanding our knowledge and understanding.
Though giving credit to our parents and many others is reasonable, they are not the only ones who have shaped our lives. In fact, it is God, specifically Jesus, who has given us life. He has given us life in two different ways. First, we are told He is the Word who became flesh in John 1. Therefore, through the Word all things were created, including we human beings. Second, through Him we are given eternal life.
Peter chastises the people who were astonished at his healing a lame man for being part of the crowd that rejected Jesus and sent Him to the cross. He states they killed the Author of life. This proclamation comes after he and the other apostles had been anointed with the Holy Spirit and their minds were opened to the Scriptures. They now knew how the Scriptures had pointed to the coming of the Messiah and understood that Jesus was the fulfillment of them.
Peter continues by stating they were witnesses to it all. Everything they had seen and experienced during Jesus’ ministry leading to the cross and resurrection made sense. The puzzle pieces fell into the place revealing the complete picture. We, too, can study Scripture and experience the picture being revealed to us. We can start by believing the witnesses to Jesus’ life and ministry on this earth and continue by crediting Him with our life.
I pray we all study the Scriptures. I pray we ask God to reveal his Word to us through his Holy Spirit. I pray each one of us believe the witnesses and credit Jesus as the Author of life. Study God’s Word. Ask God to reveal his Word. Believe the witnesses. Know the Jesus is the Author of life.
Acts 3:14-15 But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.
