Have you experienced something unpredictable in your life? Has there been a time when your life turned dramatically in a different direction? What was the cause of your sudden change? How did you feel in the moment? How do you feel as you look back at the change?
Some of us may experience a sudden change in our lives. In some cases, it can be a result of tragedy. In other cases, it is a positive result of following life-changing advice. Regardless of the reason, our feeling about the suddenness can be mixed. Our feelings about the change may depend on the outcome.
Moses experienced a sudden change in the direction of his life. He had experienced a couple of sudden changes already. He was born an Israelite, adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter, escaped potential prosecution for murder, and became a shepherd. Now, he is looking at an amazing sight of a bush burning but not being consumed. He decided he needed to get a closer look. I’m sure Moses was not only curious but seeking to understand how it could be.
We may see something amazing that will spike our curiosity. We feel compelled to get a closer look. The result of a closer look could be the genesis of a significant change in our lives, just as it was for Moses. When the change is one that is made by God, it can be jolting. We can initially be unnerved. Even after the change has been made, we can have our doubts. However, if it is of God’s making, he will always be with us and provide a way for us to continue.
I pray we all have a little curiosity to see something amazing. I pray we pay close attention to God’s calling on our lives. I pray we follow the change God is making in our lives. Be curious. See God’s amazing. Be attentive to God’s calling. Follow God’s lead. Be willing to change.
Exodus 3:2-3 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight and see why the bush is not burned up.”
